The Mediator

IJda Terpstra

MfN Registered Mediator/Certified Confidential Counsellor. My roots can be traced back to Friesland; I was born in Grouw.

What exactly is mediation?

Mediation is also known as conciliation. In mediation, intervention techniques are used to bring parties into dialogue with one another in order to reach mutual solutions. This can also mean wanting to separate amicably.

The parties determine what is discussed and which solutions are feasible and desirable for both. The parties retain control from start to finish.

Working Method & Core Values

1

Intake meeting between parties

It will be determined in consultation whether an intake meeting with the parties separately is desirable. The parties can then first meet me as a mediator without obligation, state their expectations for the mediation, and ask questions.

2

First mediation meeting

The parties have agreed to sit down together. The parties and I will meet for an initial meeting at a preferably neutral location; this location will be determined by mutual agreement.

3

Progress

During the first meeting, both parties can tell their own story so that mutual interests and positions become clearer. In this way, the parties can explore and negotiate possible joint solutions.

4

Conclusion

Mediations are concluded with a settlement agreement. This includes the specific agreements reached. This agreement can be drawn up by me upon request.
